I’d like to clear up something that I said a few weeks ago about the Salon des Glaces in Versailles. I was totally out on that one. Apparently, the word glace in this instance is translated as mirrors, and refers to the Hall of Mirrors, which is a common tourist destination at Versailles.
How did I get this so incredibly wrong? I recently toured the Opera House in Paris, and they had a Galerie des Glaces in that building. During the tour, the audio guide stated that that area is where opera attendants would go to refresh themselves with ice cream after the show. So that’s where I went wrong. Sorry about that.
Also, in today’s story, the term noyau refers to a liqueur made of brandy flavored with fruit kernels. You probably knew that, but I had to look it up, so I thought I’d pass it along.
And now, The Room in the Dragon Volant, Part 5 of 5, by Sheridan LeFanu.
